Came to Life
It all started with a simple idea: starbird chicken deserved better. Founder Marcus Reid grew up eating fried chicken from family recipes passed down through generations in the American South. When he moved to San Jose, CA, he couldn't find anything that came close to that homegrown boldness — so he built it himself.
In 2014, Marcus opened the first Starbird chicken kitchen out of a converted food truck parked on Brokaw Road. The line wrapped around the block on opening day and never stopped growing. Word spread fast — this wasn't just chicken, it was starbird chicken, with proprietary spice blends, hand-battered technique, and sauces made fresh each morning.
Today, Starbird chicken operates from our flagship San Jose location and delivers across the Bay Area. We still use Marcus's original brine recipe, we still hand-bread every piece, and we still believe that great food starts with integrity — in ingredients, in process, and in the people who make it every day.

Brick-and-Mortar Opening
With growing demand, we open our first permanent location at 1088 E Brokaw Rd, San Jose. Seating for 60, a full kitchen, and the same soul-food spirit.
